on to the speaker. This means that you'll
be able to easily replace the skin with a
different design in the future or remove it
altogether. Totem displayed five differ-
ent skin designs which cover the speaker
cabinet but leave the drivers exposed. A
future skin design may cover the drivers
completely.
Nabil Akhrass, former owner of Justice
Audio, introduced his new distribution
company Liberty Trading at this year's
show. The new company distributes a
number of brands previously available in
the Canadian market but also introduces
a number of new ones. The company's
brand portfolio includes GutWire Audio
Cables, LSA Group amplifiers and speak-
ers, Revolver speakers, Roksan electron-
ics and speakers, Audes speakers and
Mastersound amplifiers. If Nabil has his
way, I'm sure that you'll be reading about
some of these products in future issues of
CANADA HiFi.
Audio Dream Distributions, importer of
Leema Acoustics, Orelle, BC Acoustique
and Mosscade, displayed a number of
new products at this year's show. The fo-
cus was definitely on Leema Acoustics, a
brand that's still relatively new to the Ca-
nadian market. Based in England, Leema
Acoustics offers CD players, amplifiers,
loudspeakers and phono stages. The
2-channel system demonstrated in this
room included the Tucana II integrated
amplifier ($7500), the Antilia CD player
($6000) and Xero mini monitors ($1400).
The cables consisted of Soundstring pow-
er cords, Ecosse Symphony interconnects
and Ecosse MS4.45 speaker cables. The
Xero mini monitors are true to their name
in size but produced a surprisingly large
sound. The overall sound produced by
this system was rich with great detail.
Teo Audio shared a room this year with
Avatar Acoustics, a distributor of AMR,
Acoustic System, Dr. Feickert Analogue,
Karam and Rethm. The system playing
here consisted of Teo Audio's brand new
Runa "Orange" and Runa "Lucia" loud-
speakers (one pair connected at a time)
running with a Mactone XX-3000 pream-
plifier and a Mactone MS-88 amplifier, or
KR Audio's Kronzilla SXi integrated am-
plifier. There were two
sources: an AMR CD-77
CD player and a Dr. Fe-
ickert Blackbird turntable
(together with a Mactone
XX-305 phono preamp).
All of this gear was con-
nected with Teo Audio's
Reference interconnects
and The Standard speaker
cables. Most visitors to
this room had to open
their eyes very wide to
take in the giant tubes of
the KR Audio's ampli-
fier if size was every-
thing, these tubes defi-
nitely stole the show. A quick listen to the
system through the smaller Runa "Lucia"
speakers produced a sound that I would
expect to hear from much larger floor-
standing speakers. The sound was trans-
parent and had great dynamics. The funky
blue and orange flat finish of the speakers
was a refreshing change from all the other
speakers at the show.
But like all good things Salon Son &
Image had to come to an end. After four
days of roving the show floor, mingling
with industry professionals and enjoying
Montreal nightlife, it was time to pack up
and hit the highway back to Toronto. Will
I be returning next year? With pleasure!

ic components. Roksan is one of several new brands distributed
in Canada by Liberty Trading.

Audio electronics.
Audio Dream Distributions played music on an all
Leema Acoustics system consisting of Tucana II inte-
grated amplifier, the Antilia CD player and the Xero mini
monitors.
